Collision Avoidance System (CAS) Deployment
Optec is partnering with a Tier-One Coal Mining Operator to deploy Collision Avoidance System (CAS) technology across a tier-one coal mining operation. The rollout improves safety and consistency by standardising CAS performance across a fleet of ~300 vehicles.
Roles Placed
Field Service Technicians
Auto-electrical & Communications Specialists
Mining Technology & CAS Technicians
The Challenge
The operator required a full-fleet rollout of Wabtec CAS v5/v6 systems across multiple sites, including installation, integration, and validation. Consistency, minimal downtime, and compatibility with vehicle networks and site communications were critical to project success.

Our Solution
The deployment improved site safety and ensured consistent CAS behaviour across the fleet through:
Reliable installation, calibration, and documentation
Reduced rework and minimal downtime across ~300 assets
High-quality commissioning and disciplined workflows
A scalable model for future CAS and fleet technology rollouts

The Outcome
Optec mobilised a multi-skilled field service team to deliver installation, commissioning, diagnostics, and ongoing support. Key activities included:
Hardware fit-outs, wiring, and RF/GPS alignment
CAN bus integration and network validation (mesh, radio, Wi-Fi/LTE)
Functional testing aligned to Wabtec standards
Structured service coverage across Moranbah, Mackay, and Emerald
Long-Term Value
The CAS Deployment has built scalable capability in digital mine safety systems and multi-site technology rollouts. It positions Optec as a trusted partner for future technology and operator programs involving fleet technology, safety systems, and digital transformation.
